Mendoza and The Andes

IN THE KINGDOM OF THE ACONCAGUA
At the foot of the Andes, Mendoza is a modern city set on historic foundations -Libertador General San Martin crossed The Andes from here to help in the liberation of Chile. Though rainfall is slight, irrigation turns the surroundings into a green oasis covered with productive vineyards and fruit plantations. The city is mainly modern with low buildings many gardens and trees. There are excellent museums. Argentina's major ski resort, Las Leñas, is south of the city in Valle Hermoso.
